Mid-season 2021 Invitational and World Championships qualifiers will also still be held for the region. Riot Games will also be closing their Sydney office following this decision. In 2019 Riot Games generated $1.5B in revenue across the board, so for many content creators and gamers this decision came a somewhat of a shock.

In a statement, Malte Wagener, Managing Director, NA & OCE, and Tom Martell, Director of Operations, Global Esports “the OPL has not met our goals for the league, and we do not believe that the market is currently able to support the league in its current form.”
