Premier League: No Van Dijk, No Fabinho, No worries
Liverpool: No Van Dijk, No Fabinho, No worries
Due to injury both of Liverpool’s top defenders, Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho have been taken off of the team sheet. Van Dijk is expected to be out until the end of the season but Fabinho is set to make a come back during this Premier League campaign. While Liverpool’s defence has been weakened, many stars have stepped up to fill the void, such as Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips. These two young stars have shown why young talent is very important to the big clubs, giving young players the chance to grow.
Liverpool played West Ham in the Premier League and Atalanta in the Champions League in the past 4 days both matches Liverpool secured the win. The game against West Ham proved to be a bit difficult with the away team putting up a tremendous battle and making the defending champions work for their victory. On the other hand, their third match in the Champions League proved to be easier with 5 goals being put in the back of the net, with Diogo Jota getting his first hat-trick in Europe.
Atalanta couldn’t stop the attacking power of Liverpool, but without the performance of the new backline, this win would not have been so spectacular. Liverpool now leads Group D with 9 points not losing a game so far, their only competition at the moment is Ajax who also secured 3 points last night.
Klopp said after the match: "I don't think anyone could've defended against Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota so it wasn't about the tactics or our system it was about the team"
Jota spoke on his performance: "I'm playing in the best team of my career so far. I don't know if it's the best moment of my career but obviously scoring goals is my way of playing football. I'm happy with this, a great win away in Champions League, a good moment and a good night"
