Premier League: Is Mikel Arteta making a difference and has Everton’s bubble burst?

Mikel Arteta became manager of Arsenal in the 2019/2020 season and has completely changed the way the whole squad think and play. Arsenal currently have an abundance of attacking power in the final third, but their playstyle at the moment isn’t coming from pace or attacking ability but from their clinical midfield dominance.

The simple fact is, if Arsenal dominates midfield they protect their backline from most attacks. Instead of constantly playing back to their defence the midfield can pass the ball forward quicker moving into space and giving the defence time to see any counter-attacking play coming from leaving the likes of Rob Holding and Gabriel to dominate the defence as well.

Arsenal made a fantastic signing during the summer transfer window by buying Ghanaian international Thomas Partey. His contribution at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield has meant Mikel Arteta can format the squad in a way that’s difficult for other clubs to play against.

Has Everton’s bubble burst?

Everton started the 2020/21 season with a run of games where they were unbeaten, these games included Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion. Their latest games saw this run of form being stopped by Southampton and Newcastle. Southampton beat Everton at home, putting 2 goals past Everton No1 Jordan Pickford.

Many Everton fans thought that this could be the year that they take the Premier League by storm and win the league for the first time ever. Could this now be the downfall of Everton? Every team within the Premier League have their great days and their bad days. Was Everton on form or were their opponents having a bad start to the season?
