Guardiola signs 2-year extension continuing City career

Pep Guardiola’s current contract ends in 7 months and the new contract will extend his career at Manchester City until the end of the 2023 season. His signature on the contract has put an end to all the speculation about his future at the club. His stay at the Etihad Stadium has now been extended to 7 years, making this the longest stay for the ex Spanish international at any club in his managerial career.

Guardiola was previously in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. He stayed for four years in Spain and 3 years in Germany. In September, Guardiola commented on his career at Man City expressing that he was waiting to see if he "deserved" a new deal.

“The challenge for us is to continue improving and evolving, and I am very excited about helping Manchester City do that.” - Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has a prolific managerial career, he has won over 25 major trophies with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Guardiola said "Ever since I arrived at Manchester City I have been made to feel so welcome in the club and in the city itself - from the players, the staff, the supporters, the people of Manchester and the chairman and owner,"

"Since then we have achieved a great deal together, scored goals, won games and trophies, and we are all very proud of that success.”

"Having that kind of support is the best thing any manager can have. I have everything I could possibly want to do my job well and I am humbled by the confidence the owner, chairman, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain] have shown in me to continue for two more years after this season.”

"The challenge for us is to continue improving and evolving, and I am very excited about helping Manchester City do that.”
