Fortnite world cup cancelled due to the current pandemic

Epic Games have announced that the Fortnite World Cup will be the latest event cancelled due to the current pandemic. The World Cup was scheduled for July 2020, with all other competitions moving online for the rest of the year, that will include all Fortnite events such as Fortnite Cash Cups, the Fortnite Champion Series.

Epic Games have spoken out about the recent cancellation and said “We don’t know when a return to large, global, in-person events will be practical, but we’re hopeful to be able to put on some form of Fortnite World Cup in 2021”.

In the summer of 2019 the Fortnite world cup made its way into mainstream news, with Epic Games putting up prizes for solo and duo events of a record breaking $30 million (£23.8 million). In a tweet a developer at Epic Games wrote “Due to the limitations of cross-region online competition, there will not be a Fortnite World Cup in 2020”, making the Fortnite world cup impossible to be held this year.
