Dutch FA announce closure of season

The Dutch FA have said that the season was effectively over on Tuesday due to the dutch government's extension on the ban of all major public and sporting events by at least 3 months. The country's FA has said that the efforts to try and finish the 2019/20 season would come to a halt, but would have to contact UEFA who have been pushing clubs and members to try and finish the season.

The Dutch government banned events including amateur and professional sporting events, music festivals and all other mass gatherings until the 1st of september to avoid a recurrence of COVID-19 cases.

Before the Dutch FA make a set in stone decision UEFA will need to be consulted, after which a result will be confirmed. On Friday all clubs will meet to discuss the possibles and consequences. The meeting will verify whether the season will become Null and Void or if trophies and Cups will still be awarded based on the current standings, with the latter looking unlikely given how close the current table stands. Ajax are currently sat at the top of the Eredivisie on 56 points but AZ Alkmaar, currently sat in 2nd, also have 56 points.
