Betting within the world of eSports.

eSports is a new sport compared to other sports like football or Rugby, but has made a big difference for the younger generation, opening opportunities that wouldn’t have been available to the older generations. With betting also becoming a factor to eSports the profits that bookmakers were estimated to make in 2019 was $12.9bn, that is more than 100% profit increase then 2016.

Data shows that more than 40% of people watching eSports haven’t played the game they are watching, the audience is primarily male orientated but with a growing audience of female gamers, 62% of the audience are males and 38% of the audience are females, with more than half being aged between 21 and 35 years old.

With current events, eSports has also been affected by COVID-19 along with all other sports but as stated earlier this hasn’t affected eSports in this horrific way with most tournaments moving to an online only format, with eSports tournaments still going ahead this has become a major contributor for bettors, which intern drives the growth of eSports as a whole.

As eSports is becoming seen as a sport and not just a pastime, therefore along comes a lot of benefits that other sports don’t possess. These benefits include, eg: when other sports are postponed or cancelled eSports tournaments can still take place and unlike with football or golf or any other outdoor sport, weather isn’t a playing factor to the tournament going ahead.
